Sibiu → Alba Iulia → Corvin Castle → Hunedoara

Flow of the day
Optional plans
- If Alba runs long, skip any extra Hunedoara wandering and keep the castle visit focused.
- Optional short wall walk in Alba Carolina if weather is good.
Inside Alba Carolina
- Changing of the guard — 12:00 PM at Gate III (St. Michael’s Gate). Soldiers in historical uniform, and a good way to open the visit. There is a second ceremony at 6:00 PM, but you leave at 1:30, so noon is the one that fits. Your 9:45 AM–1:30 PM window covers it comfortably — be at the gate a few minutes early.
- Union Hall (Sala Unirii) — where the 1918 union of Transylvania with Romania was declared, and the most historically significant thing inside the walls. Allow 30–45 minutes. Entry to the hall is free; there is a small fee for the attached museum exhibit.
- Union Hall is normally closed on Mondays — it runs Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 10:00–18:00, and this is a Monday. Confirm before building the morning around it, and have the cathedrals and the ramparts as the fallback. Worth checking the guard ceremony runs on Mondays too.
- Even if the ceremony is missed, Gate III is the finest of the citadel gates and worth walking through on the way in.
A loop that fits the time you have: Gate III for the ceremony → through the courtyard to Union Hall → St. Michael’s Cathedral and the Coronation Cathedral → out towards Gate I or Gate IV along the grassy ramparts → a café inside the walls before you leave for Corvin.
Background / read during travel
Alba Iulia and Corvin together compress a lot of Transylvanian history into one day: Habsburg-era fortress geometry at Alba Carolina and late-medieval, almost storybook grandeur at Corvin Castle.

Family rhythm note
Alba is your stroller-friendly reset before the tighter castle sequence. Plan lunch before Corvin so the late-afternoon visit does not become a hunger-driven meltdown.
Low-energy fallback
If the morning starts behind, trim Alba to the citadel core and cathedral zone. Keep Corvin as the fixed afternoon anchor because the castle hours matter more than extra wandering in Hunedoara.

Execution guidance
- Corvin opens at noon on Mondays (confirmed for Aug 10) and closes at 20:00, so the 3:15 PM walk over is safe — but check the last-entry cutoff on arrival.
- Use Alba Iulia for the longer first stop; do not invert the sequence casually.
- Keep lunch inside the Alba window so Corvin does not become rushed.
- Fallback trigger: if Alba runs long, shorten the citadel loop rather than clipping the castle to nothing.
