Romanian pronunciation, phonetics, and fast-read support
This page is meant to be genuinely useful in stations, on menus, on road signs, and when sounding out itinerary names aloud. It is not a full linguistics guide — it is a practical travel companion for English speakers.
How to use this page
Romanian is fairly phonetic once you know the letter values. The most important wins for this trip are the diacritics (ă â î ș ț), the soft/hard consonant pairs (ce/ci, ge/gi, che/chi, ghe/ghi), and a few vowel clusters you will keep seeing in place names.

Quick confidence rules
- ș is almost always sh.
- ț is always a clean ts.
- ce/ci and ge/gi are soft; che/chi and ghe/ghi keep them hard.
- If you can say the vowels clearly and read the diacritics correctly, most Romanians will understand you even if your stress is not perfect.
